Clarity for schools

Clarity Guides are plain-English, sourced guides that help people spot disinformation. Each one sets out what people claim, what the evidence actually shows and where it runs out, so readers can check things for themselves.

How every guide is checked

  1. Research from reputable sources: official bodies such as NHS inform, GOV.UK and Historic Environment Scotland, national archives and museums, and published research.
  2. Claims are labelled as claims. Where sources disagree we give the range; where a story is tradition, we say so.
  3. Two proofreads check the facts, figures, links and wording, plus a page-by-page layout check.
  4. Sources are listed at the back of every guide, so pupils can follow them up.
  5. Corrections: every guide page has a “Spotted an error?” form. We check every report and update the guide.

What you won’t find here

Topics only for adults are not on this site, and a few guides note when they are not suitable for children. Every guide carries a clear disclaimer (not medical, financial or legal advice) and points to proper help, such as NHS 24 on 111.

Not every guide on the site is written for pupils. Some explain beliefs, such as astrology or tarot, always as claims and never as fact, and some cover adult life admin like wills and tax. The guides above are the ones we suggest for classrooms.

Classroom packs

Classroom packs: now being added

Each classroom pack is a free-standing, 10-page A4 lesson pack made for Scottish classrooms. Every pack has a clear age label, a lesson plan, teacher notes, a pupil worksheet, a quiz and the answers, ready to photocopy. Packs for our free guides are free to download, copy and use in your school, with no email or sign-up. The other packs are available with a school licence: ask us and we’ll reply with the details. Whole-school licence: £129. One price covers every teacher in your school.
