What we check
Claims we can look at
We check
- Viral claims and circulating posts
- News stories and headlines
- Health claims, as facts only (not medical advice)
- Scam offers and "too good to be true" deals
- Quotes attributed to a public figure
- Statistics and charts in circulation
- Photos, with reverse image search
- Signs a post or image may be AI-generated
We don't
- Check or investigate private individuals
- Give medical, legal or financial advice
- Do political campaigning for any party or candidate
- Guarantee we can check every claim: we may decline
Example
What a verdict looks like
Made-up sample so you can see the layout. Not a real check.
Claim (example): "A new UK study proves drinking lemon water every morning cures the common cold in 24 hours."
Verdict: Misleading. Lemon water is fine to drink, but no reputable UK study shows it cures a cold in 24 hours. Cold symptoms usually ease on their own over several days. Treats that claim to "cure" a cold in a day are a common online exaggeration.
Why: The post linked to a blog, not a peer-reviewed paper. NHS guidance on colds does not list lemon water as a cure. A reverse image search showed the "lab photo" was a stock image first posted years earlier.

- Example source label: Cochrane / NICE summaries on cold self-care (placeholder)
- Example source label: Reverse image search result (stock library)
Example data This whole card is labelled example data. A real report names live sources.
How we check
Our method
Primary sources first
We look for the original study, official statement, court record or dataset behind a claim, not just another post repeating it.
Official data
Where it exists, we prefer official UK sources (for example NHS, ONS, gov.uk, Companies House) and named regulators.
More than one source
We look for independent confirmation. One blog or one viral thread is not enough for a "True" verdict.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we correct it. Email us with the report reference and we'll review it and, if needed, send an updated verdict.

Questions
Fact Check FAQ
What can I request now?
The free Quick Check is live: one short verdict within 3 working days. We take up to 10 free checks a week. Full Fact Check (£6) and the Bundle (£15 for 3) are coming soon and can't be ordered yet.
Is a real person involved?
Yes. Every AI reply is supervised by a real person. Everyday AI tools like Grok may help with searching and drafting; a person always checks the verdict and sources before you get them.
Do you check people?
No. We check claims, using public information. We never trace or investigate private individuals, and we do no surveillance.
Is this medical, legal or financial advice?
No. A Fact Check summarises what public sources say about a claim. It is not advice about your health, your rights or your money. For those, speak to a qualified professional.
Will you check political claims?
We can check a specific factual claim that is circulating. We do not campaign for any party or candidate, and we may decline requests that are mainly about promoting or attacking a campaign.
What if you can't check it?
We'll say so. Some claims have no public evidence either way (verdict: Unproven), and some requests we decline (for example private individuals, or advice we are not qualified to give).
What if you get something wrong?
Tell us. We review corrections and, if we were wrong, we send an updated verdict.
How do I send a screenshot?
Use the form below: there's an optional file upload for a screenshot or PDF. You can also paste the claim and add a link.
Do you charge VAT?
No. We're not VAT-registered, so no VAT is added.
